Product Description
A new, gel spun polyetholine, fused into a super fiber. This pre-waxed, braided cord has an unbelievably high tensile strength. Known as the strongest fiber, per diameter, ever created, it's been recommended in numerous how-to articles on beadworking. It is pre-waxed and comes in either Smoke Grey or "Crystal (really translucent white)". Will fit #12 English beading needle. .006" diameter (4 pound strength) size is similar to Nymo size B. .008"-.009" diameter (6-10 pound strength) size is similar to Nymo size D. Please note that, for some unknown reason, the information on these labels -- pound strength, diameter, color name, size listing -- changes frequently. We will send you what you order, even if the information on the package label doesn't match exactly.
The FireLine product we sell is non-biodegradable. The FireLine typically sold in a fishing store or Walmart is biodegradable.
What makes this product strong is the nylon sheathing's ability to maintain the twist in the braided beading thread within it. If the nylon sheathing is too thin or too porous, and the thread gets exposed to the air, the threads immediately untwist and break.
While not a requirement, I suggest using some bees wax and waxing the FireLine before you use it. This will protect the nylon sheathing from the environment -- pollutants in air, cosmetics, hair sprays, chemicals in a person's sweat.
This brand of cable thread is one of the few I feel comfortable, that means safe, using. Another good brand is Spider Wire. The nylon sheathing on the other brands tends to be too thin or too porous.
