DESCRIPTION:
Learn to make useful shapes with wire that can be used as jewelry findings for earrings, necklaces and bracelets, or as connectors/links in chains.
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:
Beginner Level
PREREQUISITES:
ORIENTATION TO BEADS AND JEWELRY FINDINGS
(All students are required to begin our curriculum with this ORIENTATION CLASS. The Orientation Class is offered once a month.)
GOALS:
Learn how wire can be used to make functional shapes, such as jewelry findings and chain links.
PROJECT/TASKS:
Make various jewelry findings
Make chain-link bracelet
SKILLS LEARNED:
Learn to make:
- Shepard's hook earrings
- embellished ear wires
- hook and eye clasp
- jump rings
- decorative toggle clasp
- eye pin
- spiral hook clasp
- looped chain bracelet
SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
Kit included with fee.
All tools provided for use during class.
No additional supplies required.
Supplies are provided as a part of a kit, and include:
16 gauge or 18 gage round wire (clasps and toggles)
20 ga or 21 ga round wire (ear wires, eye pins, jump rings)
Tools are provided for use in class, and include:
flat nose pliers
chain nose pleirs
round nose pliers
flush cutters
ruler
ultra fine sharpie
polishing cloth or steel wool #0000
steel block
chasing hammer
rawhide mallet or plastic mallet
step pliers
