WAXED COTTON CORD
Waxed cotton cord is a leather cord substitute. Waxed cotton is a cloth covering over a clear nylon line. Waxed cotton is much stronger than leather, and some say lasts longer than leather. You can get it wet. It is great for use with pendants. The 'color-fast cord' colors will not run.
NOTE: There is a lot of variation in the actual thicknesses of these cords. Expect some deviation from the size as labeled. There will be variation from spool to spool, as well as along the lengths of these cords. The thickness will also be affected by the level of humidity in the air.
We carry premium waxed cotton made in Japan in 2mm. [The manufacturer until recently (2009) had listed the diameter of this product as "1mm", but it's definitely 2mm.] It is more durable than the Indian, but stiffer.
We also carry a good quality waxed cotton made in India in .5mm and 1mm. This cord is duller and a bit greasier than the Japanese material, but still a good product. It is softer and less stiff than the Japanese, and many designers prefer this softer quality over the Japanese. There will be some color variation from spool to spool. The diameters on these cords will be .5-1mm and 1mm-1.5mm.
